Virtual Multi-Homing: On the Feasibility of Combining Overlay Routing with BGP Routing

چکیده
This paper proposes a framework calledVirtualMulti-Homing (VMH) to achieve loose source-based path selection and improve interdomain path diversity. VMH is based on the concept ofVirtual Peering and Multi-Homing Overlay to set up exible inter-domain relationships. By interacting with BGP whenever possible, VMH can achieve scalable inter-domain route discovery without introducing duplicate work. In addition, VMH is a complementary approach to the existing Internet routing infrastructure and can be incrementally deployed.

BGP Routing Table: Trends and Challenges
BGP is currently the most important protocol for ensuring global connectivity over the Internet. This puts a great deal of responsibility on BGP and creates a number of challenges for it. Of primary concern is the impact that various currently deployed BGP-based techniques have on the scalability of the global routing table. While these techniques provide ISPs with additional traffic management...

Following the occurrence of unexpected events and natural disasters, a highly important relief operation is the transferring of relief commodities from the distribution centers (CDs) to shelters. In this paper, a three-level network consisting of depot of vehicles, distribution centers and shelters has been considered for routing and scheduling of relief vehicles through introducing a multi-obj...
متن کاملOPCA: Robust Interdomain Policy Routing and Traffic Control
An increasing number of ASes have been connecting to the Internet through the BGP inter-domain routing protocol. With increasing stress on the scale of this system and increasing reliance on Internet connectivity, more participants demand additional functionality from interdomain routing that BGP cannot handle. For example, we believe that the recent trend towards multihomed stub networks exhib...
متن کاملEIR: Edge-aware inter-domain routing protocol for the future mobile internet
This work describes a clean-slate inter-domain routing protocol designed to meet the needs of the future mobile Internet. In particular, we describe the edge-aware inter-domain routing (EIR) protocol which provides new abstractions, such as aggregated-nodes (aNodes) and virtual-links (vLinks) for expressing network topologies and edge network properties necessary to address mobility related rou...
متن کاملHow Small Groups Can Secure Interdomain Routing
Although the Internet’s routing system has serious security vulnerabilities, none of the existing proposals for a secure variant of BGP has been successfully deployed in practice. This is not surprising since deploying protocols that require the cooperation of tens of thousands of independentlyoperated networks is problematic. Instead, we argue that small groups should be the basis for securing...
